How does Wall Street honor this, the 200th anniversary of the end of slave trade?
Although it started in England, the trade act of 1807 made the selling of humans ILLEGAL on the English trade market. After several decades of legal and political effort the financial exchange of slaves on the London markets was declared illegal and across England. It began the end of slavery in the west which would take more than a century, but eventually would result in freedom of slaves in the Americas and Europe and the west in general Now in the 21st century world slavery is on the rise but for the most part gone in the west.
I would love some recommendations on special exhibits or things done on Wall Street about the event… does City Bank, or Morgan Stanly or the New York Stock Exchange.. Bloomberg’s? Any suggestions for somthine on Wall street? Any museums or special historical exhibits you would recommend relating to William Wilberforce and the people of his day? Who worked to help make people “NOT FOR SALE” and eventually off the financial markets of the West
I realize slave trade first ended by parliamentary vote in England, then Europe, but it marked the beginning of the end of the respectability of the slave markets and would eventually reach the Americas
My guess is that Wall Street won’t bring this up at all. Too explosive of an issue.
Is OBL’s ability to eviscerate America with a few box cutters similar to the story of David and Goliath?
With a few box cutters OBL murdered 3000 US citizens on US soil within a few hours. OBL also bankrupted America via GW Bush’ lie based invasion of Iraq. OBL’s and Iran’s sworn enemy Saddam Hussein was taken out by America and now China owns the USA due to funding for the lie based war.
Yet neocons have the audacity to say “we won” something.
The US government can’t tie its own shoes let alone stop terrorism. The list of failed US government efforts is so long it makes France look like a Military superpower in comparison. So is it any wonder that determined criminals can hijack a nation?
Congress goes on Pork laden spending spree calling it stimulus….deficit at record levels…economy plunges into depression….
Financial Markets Collapse 2008…
The Real Estate bubble 2008…good job Frank, Dodd et al.
The War on Terror…No Iraq…No South Korea…No Iran….No Venezuela? Get in line!
The US invaded by 12 million mostly unarmed Mexicans…..
The hunt for Osama? Can’t catch one guy. This is embarrassing.

The war on Drugs? Really?
The first amnesty for illegals that was supposed to have ended the problem.
Gulf war I, mission accomplished almost?
Vietnam? Had these young men lived they would be running the country today.
The Great Society? One of the biggest jokes ever played on America.
The first energy crisis in the 1970’s. You know, the one that was supposed to lead us to freedom from foreign oil!
No child left behind? A few hundred billion dollars later we can’t even find the children.
Social Security? Oxymoron
Health Care? For those that can pay.
And the list goes on………….
Has anybody else noticed that America is turning into a Socialist government?
All of the banks are becoming owned by the government, just like a socialist or communist government. And this is conservatives doing this, the ones yelling that Obama is a socialist. I find that extremely hypocritical.
Socialism is a good thing! This whole situation has been a long time coming. Capitalism is completely unsustainable in the long run. I doubt that we will see a move to far left socialism or Communism but goverments will not allow the financial sector such freedom in future ever again. It will be regulated as it should be.
Why do people think Conservatives wants to restrict freedom, and do people believe that lie?
Not true, let me clarify what Conservatism really is…
I am a conservative, we want Freedom of Religion, Freedom of SPEECH, Freedom of >PRESS<, Freedom to Assemble, Freedom to bare arms. We want rights to property, right to privacy, right to live, we want a small Government who’s only job is to protect these Freedom and Rights and this Land which what defense is for. That is why the Constitution Is set in place. Give them more power the more of the chance that we will lose these Freedom on the sake of being fair. And by the way Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln are one my favorite people because they improved America. And the Founding Fathers founded this Country because they want Freedom of a Oppressive Government, they set thing up so anybody, ANYBODY though hard work and dedication can Archive and become successful which is now consider terrible thing and is done by stacking the deck and stealing from the poor which is not true it can be done without out stacking the deck and stealing. And I read the community guidelines and this does not violate it.
Freedom of religion as long as its teachers requiring students to pray to their Christian God is NOT freedom.
Freedom to post religious Ten Commandments in schools is not freedom.
Freedom of speach unless its a swear word isn’t freedom.
Freedom to assemble unless its a cause you disagree with isnt freedom.
The last conservative republican we had as president SIGNIFICANTLY expanded government. Have you somehow forgotten 2001-2008??? How can you possibly call the patriot act An act of freedom? This took away my freedom. It took away my independence and my safety against an aggressive police force and a government overrun by political insanity.
The drone strikes were created by a conservative republican, not a democrat and certainly not by Obama. Somehow your media didnt have a problem with Bush ordering strikes but as soon as a black man had control it was a HUGE controversy.
It is the conservatives who continually fund subsidies for agriculture- government expansion.
The top states receiving the most financial governmental aid are republican. And just as many republicans receive financial aid nationwide.
If you believe so strongly against taking taxpayer money then STOP taking taxpayer money!
Stop saying one thing and doing another!
From what I see, you say these are your values but the party does not hold true to those values. If you want a smaller government stop expanding it!
I agree with you, we should have freedom. But how we get that freedom is where we differ.
The patriot act DID restrict my freedoms in everyday life. That is not a lie to me, it’s a reality.
We are both patriots, we both want freedom and justice, we just disagree on how to get to that goal. Don’t call me duped for my beliefs and I won’t have cause to point out your failed logic.
What would Jesus do? Did Jesus take up arms against Rome?
Your God talked with a sumaian woman, forgave and made a disciple out of a Tax collector, your God loved, forgave, peacefully accepted, ate and drank with sinners
Face it, Jesus was a socialist who told people a rich man could no sooner get into heaven then a camel could go through the eye of a needle.
You say your Christian but you people are the least Christ like of any sect I know.
Live your convictions and then ill learn to respect them.
Until you live the life you preach, don’t try to remove the plank from your brothers eye you hypocrite.
Were the founding fathers and other leaders a bunch of conspiracy theorists?
“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.
Already they have raised up a monied aristocracy that has set the government at defiance. The
issuing power (of money) should be taken away from the banks and restored to the people to
whom it properly belongs.” — Thomas Jefferson, U.S. President.
“History records that the money changers have used every form of abuse, intrigue, deceit, and violent means possible to maintain their control over governments by controlling money and it’s issuance.” — James Madison
“Fireams stand next in importance of the Constitution itself.
They are the American people’s liberty teeth and keystone under independence.” – General Washington
“If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all their property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.” – Thomas Jefferson
Americans have the right and advantage of being armed – unlike the citizens of othe counties
whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.- James Madison
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, at last resort,
to protect themselves against tyranny in government. -Thomas Jefferson
“The bank, Mr. Van Buren, is trying to kill me, but I will kill it.” Andrew Jackson
“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.” — Benjamin Franklin
” America will never be destroyed from outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” – Abraham Lincoln
“Whoever controls the volume of money in any country is absolute master of all industry and
commerce.” — James A. Garfield
“Any people that would give up liberty for a little temporary safety deserves neither liberty nor safety.” – Benjamin Franklin
“… God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty…. And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.” – Thomas Jefferson
The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government.” – Patrick Henry
“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.” – Abraham Lincoln
“The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know, that a financial element in the larger centers has owned the Government ever since the days of Andrew Jackson — and I am not wholly excepting the Administration of W. W. The country is going through a repetition of Jackson’s fight with the Bank of the United States — only on a far bigger and broader basis.” – FDR
“I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men.” -Woodrow Wilson
“All problems, depressions, wars, disasters, assassinations, all of them were planned, caused, instigated, and implemented by the International Bankers and their attempt to establish a central bank in every country in the world, which they have now done, thanks to corrupt politicians who have been bought and paid for. This is all you need to know about the history of the world.” – JFK
Clearly, these men were a bunch of tin foil hat wearing, nut-job conspiracy theorists, am I right?
Clearly, these men were a bunch of tin foil hat wearing, nut-job conspiracy theorists, am I right?
Jeez, a little long, no? Well anyway in many ways they are right and to answer your question no. They saw problems and flaws in the system because yes the banks do controll our government and yes freedom is important ( not socialism) there I said it. Agree or disagree go ahead and choose.
